Problem: Large organisations can sometimes get so bogged down in ‘business as usual’ that they forget to innovate and modernise. This can be a particular problem when it comes to opening up new business opportunities.
Solution: By holding a commercial hackathon the business was able to break away from day-to-day process and teams, thus encouraging free thinking idea generation. I led a team who concentrated on using our in-house benefits platform to sell our holidays to staff at a reduced rate. I mocked up a clickable demo by editing code, taking screenshots and using Marvel.
Outcome: Our team was given special commendation for producing a prototype and coming up with an idea that had little cost but gave potentially large returns.
